<p>Prof. Hansu Kim received the Young Scientist Award from the <a href="http://assmo.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Asian Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ASSMO)</a> in recognition of his outstanding presentation entitled “Multi-material Decomposition Optimization for Topology-optimized Structures Considering Additive Manufacturing Build Volume and Material Cost” at the <a href="https://acsmo2026.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Asian Congress of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization 2026 (ACSMO 2026)</a>, held at BEXCO, Busan, Korea.</p>

      ACSMO is a biennial congress officially endorsed by the 
      <a href="https://www.issmo.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ISSMO)</a>, 
      publisher of 
      <a href="https://link.springer.com/journal/158" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (SMO)</em></a>, 
      and organized by ASSMO. The Young Scientist Award is a highly selective honor presented to only three or four researchers under the age of 40 at each biennial congress, recognizing outstanding early-career researchers with significant potential to contribute to the field of structural and multidisciplinary optimization.
   </p>

   <p>
      This research journey began through a collaborative project between the 
      <a href="https://ilyongkim.ca/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">SMSD Lab</a>, 
      directed by Prof. 
      <a href="https://scholar.google.co.kr/citations?hl=en&amp;user=9nbcizgAAAAJ" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Il Yong Kim</a>, 
      at 
      <a href="https://www.queensu.ca/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Queen's University</a> 
      in Kingston, Canada, and the 
      <a href="https://www.kitech.re.kr/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH)</a>, 
      carried out with Dr. 
      <a href="https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=munbGkkAAAAJ&amp;hl=en&amp;oi=ao" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Si Mo Yeon</a> 
      and Dr. 
      <a href="https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=zG0N0wgAAAAJ&amp;hl=en&amp;oi=ao" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Yong Son</a>. 
      The project, conducted in collaboration with fellow SMSD researchers 
      <a href="https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=p1KEUvQAAAAJ&amp;hl=en&amp;oi=ao" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Luke Crispo</a> 
      (now Dr. Crispo), Anuj Patel, and Nicholas Galley, led to a publication in 
      <a href="https://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/journal/rpj" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Rapid Prototyping Journal</em></a> 
      on 
      <a href="https://doi.org/10.1108/RPJ-11-2023-0400" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">topology optimization and part decomposition for metal additive manufacturing</a>. 
      Dr. Hansu Kim (now Prof. Kim) subsequently expanded this line of research into 
      <a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cma.2024.117357" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">3D decomposition optimization considering additive manufacturing build volume constraints</a>, 
      resulting in a publication in 
      <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/computer-methods-in-applied-mechanics-and-engineering" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering (CMAME)</em></a>. 
      This body of work laid the foundation for the research presented at ACSMO 2026.
